849 play fields to be developed in phase-II: Chib | | | EARLY TIMES REPORT JAMMU, Feb 21: The government is planning to develop 28 play fields at block level and 821 at Panchayat and village level in phase-II to upgrade sports infrastructure at grass-root level, adding that Rs 96 lakh have been released under state share for the purpose this year. This was stated by Minister for Youth Services and Sports, Prof R S Chib at an officers meeting held here to review the functioning of Department of Youth Services & Sports and State Sports Council. Threadbare discussions were held on implementation of centrally sponsored scheme Panchayat Yuva Khel aur Krida Abhiyan (PYKKA). The Minister asked the district officers to gear up execution of works undertaken in their respective districts under the scheme, adding that the funds earmarked for the works under state and district plan need to be utilized infill by the end of this fiscal. He also enjoined upon them to consult local MLAs while selecting play fields for development under the scheme. Prof Chib took serious note of Rural Development Department for giving poor response in developing playfields under PYKKA. He directed the concerned for making documentation of all the youth related activities organised during the current year. The meeting was informed that a PYKKA cell has also been established to gear up the activities of the scheme. In phase –I, as many as 413 playfields at Panchayat and 14 at block level have been developed by utilizing Rs 4.21 crore so far.
