| Students, scholars continue protest against Police | | | EARLY TIMES REPORT
JAMMU, Feb 21: Continuing protest against the authoritative rule of police inside the Jammu University campus, the activists of National Secular Forum (NSF) today again burnt the effigy of Inspector General of Police Jammu who had ordered lathicharge over scholars and students besides illegal detention of NSF President Vikas Shaarma and JURSEA President Rakesh Chib for four hours on Saturday.
The protesting scholars and students led by Surjit Choudhary Chairman District Unit, Ravi Choudhary Chairman University Unit, Rahul Sharma President University Unit and Sukdev Singh State Secretary NSF.
A large number of students and scholars assembled on campus under the banner of National Secular Forum, this morning and took out a protest rally that went all across the campus raising slogans against the dictatorship of police personnel. Later they burnt the effigy of IG Police Dilbagh Singh.
The students and scholars of the different departments also boycotted their classes and joined the protest rally. The protesting students and scholars demanded inquiry into the whole episode. They said
University authorities must explain as to why and how the police initiated action against the students and scholars inside the campus at their own. Sukdev Singh State Secretary NSF said that NSF President
Vikas Sharma and NSF, Sr.Vice President Rakesh Chib where taken into custody and detained there for four hours without any notice. Surjit Choudhary Chairman District Unit, has said that if there will
be no inquiry, there will be continuous boycott of the classes by the scholars and the students. And, University authorities would be responsible for that.
