| 1010 villages measured, records for 790 villages deposited | | | EARLY TIMES REPORT Srinagar, Feb 21: Financial Commissioner, Pramod Jain today discussed in detail many issues related to settlement and revenue matters at a high level meeting of the Deputy Commissioners and other Revenue officers of the valley. The meeting was attended by Divisional Commissioner, Kashmir, Dr. Asgar Samoon, Deputy Commissioner of Kupwara, Mohammad Shafi Rather, Deputy Commissioner Budgam, Mohammad Rafi, Deputy Commissioner Srinagar, Meeraj Ahmad Kakroo, Deputy Commissioner Kulgam, Farooq Ahmad Khan, Deputy Commissioner Anantnag, S Jaipal Singh, Deputy Commissioner Shopian, M.S. Sood and Deputy Commissioner Ganderbal, Dilshad Khan, Settlement Officer, Kashmir, Gazi Ahmad Pandit, Assistant Commissioner Pulwama and other revenue officers. The Divisional Commissioner informed the meeting that in 2,230 villages settlement work has been taken in hand against the total number of 3,369 villages of the Kashmir valley. It was further stated in the meeting that till now 1010 villages have been measured while records for 790 villages have been deposited. On this occasion, the Financial Commissioner stressed upon the Deputy Commissioners to expedite the work of settlement and also directed them to vacate encroachment upon the state land as well as “Kah Charai land” etc. The revenue officers were also asked by the Financial Commissioner to redress the grievances of the people by personally touring the far flung areas of the respective districts to solve their problems on priority basis particularly about revenue matters and computerize land records, so that farmers do not confront any difficulty for obtaining land revenue papers. The Financial Commissioner also asked the Deputy Commissioners to ensure submission of the annual establishment return by ending March and half yearly return by June 30 and December 31 every year. Meanwhile, the Deputy Commissioners putforth their problems especially shortage of Patwaris/ Naib Tehsildars and Girdawars and ETS machines before the FC. Jain assured the Deputy Commissioners to take their problems up with the higher authorities so that their problems are redressed on priority basis.
