Geealni hasn’t been detained: Omar | ‘Don’t hold Kashmir hostage if someone is wanted in hawala case’ | | EARLY TIMES REPORT Srinagar, Feb 21 The Chief Minister, Omar Abdullah, Monday said that he has conveyed to Delhi Police to record statement of Hurriyat Conference (G) chairman, Syed Ali Shah Geelani, immediately so that he can come back to Kashmir. Omar said, “Geelani has neither been arrested nor any arrest warrants have been issued against him. He has been asked to record his statement in connection with hawala money transaction. I conveyed to Delhi Police authorities to complete the statement as soon as possible.” The Delhi Police had asked Geelani, who is in Delhi, not to leave. The police want to question him about hawala money with which his four aides were caught about two weeks ago. Omar castigated those elements who have called for a strike in Kashmir tomorrow. “If they want to make issue of it what can we say? They are looking for excuses to punish Kashmiri students, businessmen and others. They have held whole Kashmir hostage for their petty interests,” he said. The Chief Minister clarified that Geelani hasn’t been detained in the backdrop of FIR registered against him and Writer Arundhati Roy for their “anti India” speech in a seminar in Delhi last year. “He has been asked to record his statement in Hawala case. (Ghulam Mohammad) Bhat who had been arrested in hawala case has mentioned Geelani’s name. So under law his statement has to be recorded. But if they want to held Kashmir hostage for this, it is unfortunate,” he added.
