Ban on prepaid telephony attracts Omar's ire | Love for tweeting might save the day | | Mishu Gupta et report Jammu, Feb 21: The prepaid telephony in the state allegedly being ready to be sent to gallows has suddenly found surprisingly a 'great sympathizer'. The Chief Minister Omar Abdullah coming to the rescue of the users of the prepaid telephony in the state has held the service providers as the defaulters whom he blamed to have dragged their heels regarding verification and creating problem for everyone. "It's the mobile service providers who are dragging their heels regarding verification and creating a problem for everyone else," Omar said on the micro-blogging site twitter. Omar said imposing a blanket ban would be a regressive and counter-productive measure and ways have to be found to avoid it. "I agree, a blanket ban is regressive and counter-productive. How to avoid it is to be worked out," he said. Though the Chief Minister gave his take on this account, it is being ridiculed otherwise only as his (Chief Minister's) own desire to keep the connectivity alive to justify his own love for 'tweets'. The prettiness of the CM's grudge on the banning of the pre-paid telephony was that while blaming the system he has used the micro-blogging site twitter. This gives a reason to understand for all that since, of late, Chief Minister Omar Abdullah has started devoting much of his time on 'Tweeter' while apprising about his tours, travels, hobbies and even the tailors in Centre who stitch his suits, his non reaction on prepaid telephony's ban would have gathered a little 'heartburn' to the people. Also since there is a gossipy making round about Facebook too going off the net in Jammu and Kashmir, this may give another tough time to the Chief Minister to justify his tweeting while stripping the common people of their social site. Department of Telecommunication in a notification to mobile operations extended the permission for prepaid mobile connections in Jammu and Kashmir till March 31, 2011, giving rise to apprehensions that the service might be banned. The notification was issued after discrepancies and shortcomings came to surface with regard to the verification of subscriber credentials in many cases. Prepaid connections in the state were banned in 2009 as many SIM cards were recovered from the possession of militants and their sympathizers. However, the ban was lifted in January 2010 but strict guidelines for re-verification were notified to the telecom companies. |
