Resentment among POK refugees as interlocutors failed to turn up in camp, may visit today | Hold meetings with Governor, CM, CS | | early times report Jammu, Feb 21: Nourishing a feeling of utter neglect both by the State and Centre, the POK refugees residing in Jammu today faced disappointment again, this time on account of the Interlocutors who failed to turn up in their camp due to late arrival in the winter capital. On their fifth visit to the state, the three Interlocutors were scheduled to visit Bhour camp today, as a part of main engagement in the winter capital but could not make it as their flight arrived late. This left thousands of eagerly awaiting refugees angry and grumbling even as the Interlocutors would visit their camp tomorrow. It was for the first time the Interlocutors had to meet POK refugees who for reasons apparent have been feeling neglected as the former could not listen to their grievances and problems during earlier visits to winter capital. The refugees however were upbeat and high spirited as the Interlocutors had fixed their meeting today with them in order to have elaborate discussion on their present status and the problems they been facing for decades in the state in terms of non fulfillment of their demands. It is pertinent to mention that POK refugees have been nourishing grouse mainly in respect of failure of the government to rehabilitate them permanently in the state. The refugees have also been expressing annoyance with the government for what they face delay in settlement of issues like land allotment, compensation in lieu of the left over properties in POK. However, lately they have been expressing disgruntlement over what they feel government's discriminatory attitude towards them in comparison to Kashmiri Migrants. For these reasons, for quite some time the refugees have been demanding rehabilitation and benefits at par with migrants from Kashmir. This feeling took an extreme turn recently when they threatened to forcibly enter the new flats that have come up at Jagti for the rehabilitation of Kashmiri migrants if the government failed to address their concerns and problems. What would be contours of the discussion and interaction with the Interlocutors during tomorrow's meeting remains to be seen but the broader outline of the issues and concerns remains on similar lines. Meanwhile, during their over four month long assignment, as they began their fifth visit today, the three central interlocutors for Jammu and Kashmir today held discussions with Governor NN Vohra, chief minister Omar Abdullah , Chief Secretary Madhav Lal here today. Having covered almost all hues and shades of opinion during their marathon visits , the Interlocutors are now keen and have expressed their willingness to meet the separatist leadership anywhere. The government-appointed panel, which is awaiting a response from the separatist leadership to its invitation for a meeting, said it was ready to meet them wherever they wish the interlocutors to go for a dialogue. "Tomorrow if and when, the Hurriyat and other separatist leaders want to talk to us, we have absolutely no hesitation in going to wherever they wish us to go to engage them in this dialogue", head of the team and veteran journalist Dileep Padgaonkar said. "We have formally written to separatists and Hurriyat leaders requesting them to send us the published documents on their publically declared stand on this issue", he said. The team leaves for Srinagar on February 23 where they will meet civil society, editors and religious leaders. The team has extended an invitation to the separatist leadership in the valley, including Syed Ali Shah Geelani, Mirwaiz Umar Farooq and Sajjad Lone for a meeting. However, there has been no response so far from separatists. The panel which also included academician Radha Kumar and former election commissioner MM Ansari met Abdullah and apprised him of the progress of their dialogue process and interaction meetings with different shades of opinion in the State. During its meeting with Governor NN Vohra at Raj Bhawan, the team discussed issues relating to law and order situation, development, governance and emerging political ideologies in the state, officials said. Besides meeting agriculture minister Gulam Hassan Mir, the team held deliberations with chief secretary Madav Lal on matters relating to governance, development, finance, planning and fund allocations. The team had earlier visited the state on October 23, November 10, December 17 last year and January 18 this year. After their previous visits, the panel had submitted several recommendations to the centre including expediting cases of under trials, permitting peaceful protests and releasing militants and protesters against whom there are no serious charges.
