GOC 15 Corps rules out AFSPA revocation

Kulgam, Feb. 21: Stating that the revocation of AFSPA was impossible, General Officer Commanding (GOC) of Srinagar based 15 Corps, Lieutenant General Atta Muhammad Hassnain today said that the infiltration may increase in spring.
"Revocation of AFSPA is impossible because training camps are still active on the other side of LOC," General Hasnain told reporters on the sidelines of a function here in Behebagh Kulgam. He said that now-a-days there is no infiltration because of heavy snowfall on LOC,but in coming spring and summer season there are chances of increased infiltration. However, he maintained that army is ready to counter any infiltration bid on border.
On troop-cut, the Commander said that their will be no troop reduction in Army. "It has been cleared time and again that this is not the right time for troop-cut and every one should believe in it". He said the presence of army everywhere including in remotest areas of the state would be helpful for administration in executing developmental works.
"Army is present everywhere and can suggest measures to local authorities for executing developmental works especially in far flung areas for maintenance and maintenance of law and order in the state. Army will remain part of every developmental work," he said adding army has already decided to dedicate this year for the peace and prosperity of people.
Before interacting with media GOC interacted with locals and promised them that Army will take up different developmental works in the area under Operation Sadbavna.Mean while an Educational/Motivational tour of 35 students and 3 teachers was flagged in by General Officer in Commanding Major 1Sec RR General Narender Singh where other army commanders and officers were also present.
The educational tour aimed to provide exposure to the children of Anantnag, Kulgam and Shopian to rich cultural heritage of India as well as to spread the message of peace and harmony. The tour also aimed to enhance the knowledge and give a glimpse of modern India to these children and also provide them with an opportunity to interact withthe people of different cultures. The tour was scheduled from February 8 to February 20 and visited prominent places of Jammu and Kolkata like Fort Wilaim, VictoriaMemorial, Eden Gearden etc. During the tour the school children also Interacted with Lt Gen Vikram Singh and other Army officers.
