JAMMU, Feb 21: Tinkering with Amarnath yatra period and curtailing it cleverly by 15 days has begun attracting attention of commoners especially Hindu social organisations, which usually look after religious rituals associated with the yatra.
Although, none of these organisations have so far protested in open against the decision of Shri Amarnath Shrine Board (SASB) to curtail Yatra period citing climatic and road clearance issues but things have begun shaping up. Sources said that Hindu social and religious organisations are holding close door meetings across Jammu region to access credibility of the reasoning given by the board which is headed by Governor of Jammu and Kashmir N.N.Vohra to curtail Yatra period.
They added that a team of several of these organisations is likely to visit the two Yatra, Baltal and Pahalgam, to assess the condition of the track. Meanwhile, Shri Baba Amaranth and Shri Baba Buda Amaranth Yatri Niyas today held a meeting under the chairmanship of Surinder Mohan Aggarwal at Shakti Aasharam in Rehari area of Jammu city wherein the issue was discussed threadbare.
Niyas regretted the board decision and said that it has been taken in haste. It added that while announcing the date of Shri Amaranth Yatra, board failed to take cognizance of the fact that Yatra starts from Jaishth Purnima and is no way related to track clearance or some other physical and climatic issue as mentioned by board in its official handout.
Niyas maintained that decision to start this yatra from June 29 instead of traditional Jaishth Purnima, which falls on June 15, has been taken without consulting religious heads. It disclosed that opinion of Niyas had been already conveyed to the Shrine Board authorities in their earlier meeting but the same has been seemingly ignored.
Niyas pleaded with SASB to reconsider their decision of starting the sacred Amarnath yatra from June 29 instead of June 15 which is religiously required. It asserted that Shrine Board had no problem last year on the commencement of Shri Amarnath Yatra on Jaishth Purnima. However, curtailing Yatra period this way is both unfortunate and against the Hindu religious rituals.
Niyas has suggested for including at least two of its members in the shrine board to avoid such unfortunate happenings. Niyas meeting was among others attended by Dr. Ramakant Dubey, Subash Gupta, Karan Singh Charak, Kuldeep Wahi, Satish Gupta, Dr, V.K. Gupta, Chander Mohan Gupta, Anoop Aggarwal and Dineshwar Singh Jamwal.
It is pertinent to mention here that last year, a function on the commencement of Shri Amarnath Yatra was organised in the Ranbireshwar Mandir at Shalimar on Jaishth Purnima. Divisional Commissioner Jammu, Dr. Pawan Kotwal had attended the same.
