JAMMU, Feb 22: Date of Birth tampering seems to have been key factor in several senior police officers being still in service. Though two have been shown the door but three more have purportedly tempered with their certificates and are under scanner.
Sources said that though the government has not ordered any probe but agencies have been put on alert and asked to scrutinize records properly to find out all those officers who have faked with the government. They added that two serving Inspector Generals of Police (IGPs) and one Deputy Inspector General (DIG) of Police have also allegedly managed induction in IPS after tempering with their date of birth.
Sources said that date of birth mentioned in the gradation list (GL) issued by Police Headquarters (PHQ) against the name of a senior police officer who is on a prime posting at present is not the same as mentioned by him when he was first appointed in police as Sub-Inspector. They added that later he was inducted in IPS in the year 1994. Sources asserted that he was suspended and inquiries are still pending against him.
Similarly, sources said that another officer on IGP rank who too is on a prime post was inducted in IPS cadre in 1992 within record time of 5 years. They added that he was first person from the technical wing of police who managed his induction in state police in the year 1987. After being inducted into the IPS, sources added that Union Home Ministry had realized the mistake.
Sources further said that ministry had even written to the state government with the plea that the order should be rejected. They maintained that the same officer knocked at the doors of court and managed stay order. Taking the advantage of status quo, sources said that the officer enjoyed two more postings.
Sources further said that he is the same officer whose case is yet to be settled and who also managed to construct a cement factory at Khrew in Srinagar. Further, they said that the same officer was also instrumental in getting contract of Police Housing Corporation (PHC) works worth crores to his contractor brother.
Referring to another officer, sources affirmed that there is another officer of IGP rank who is enjoying a prize posting and is also allegedly involved in tempering of date of birth. They asserted that the said officers are likely to be quizzed in the days ahead.
