Simula XI qualifies for semis of Friendship Cricket

JAMMU, Feb 23 : Simula Sports Club today entered the semi-finals after the side defeated Engineers XI comfortably by six wickets in the J&K Police Friendship Cup (T20) Cricket Tournament underway at University of Jammu grounds, here.
Earlier, Engineers XI, batting first, set a target of 103 runs for the loss of eight wickets, which, in reply, Simula chased in 13 overs losing only four wickets.
Dishan and Sushil were main scorers with 24 and 22 runs in their respective accounts while Vikas contributed 14. From Simula, Sameer Khajuria was most successful bowler with three wickets. Hilal Rather and Asif took one each.
Batting second, Simula attained the target of 103 runs, rather easily, for the loss of four wickets sparing seven overs of their innings. Hilal Rather (28) and Sameer Khajuria (26) were top scorers while Asif added unbeaten 22. Ashok claimed two wickets from Engineers XI.
First class cricketer, Sameer Khajuria was adjudged man of the match for his match winning innings.
Meanwhile, in another match of the day, Chief Minister (CM) XI registered a narrow three-run win over Municipal Commissioner XI.
Batting first, CM XI made 169 runs for nine. Anil Gupta (37), Kapil (33) and Amit (22) were main contributors to team’s score. From Municipal, Shivnesh and Ashok shared two wickets each.
In reply, Municipal Commissioner XI fell short of three runs to match the opponent total making 166 runs in 20 overs with three wickets in hand. Ashok played brilliant knock of 71 runs while Sunny Gill contributed 27 runs. Imtiaz, Shahzad and Parveen clinched two wickets each from CM XI.
For his all-round performance, Ashok of Municipal Commissioner XI was declared man of the match.
