NBP to contest Panchayat, local body polls
2/23/2011 10:24:33 PM
EARLY TIMES REPORT
JAMMU, Feb 23: National Bahujan Party (NBP) today announced that party would contest forthcoming Panchayat and local body elections in the State.
Addressing a press conference here today, National president of NBP K.K.Manhotra demanded that 33 percent Panchayat and local body seats should be reserved for Scheduled Castes (SCs) and other Backward Classes (OBCs) to ensure participation of these sections in the local self governance.
NBP offered full support to Chief Minister Omar Abdullah in his fight against corruption. Expressing grave concern over the failure of successive state governments to give justice to the OBCs of the State, Manhotra reiterated that 27 percent reservation should be given to OBCs in Jammu and Kashmir also. He expressed surprise that Jammu and Kashmir is the only state where OBCs have been denied their constitutional right.
