J&K coalition determined to develop twin capital cities: Dy CM

JAMMU, Feb 23: Deputy Chief Minister Tara Chand today reaffirmed determination of the coalition government to develop the twin capital cities of Jammu and Srinagar as greater cities with focus on augmenting basic civic amenities commensurate with their rising population.
Reviewing the progress under different schemes of the departments under his charge here today, the Deputy Chief Minister asked the officers to ensure full utilization of the earmarked funds before the end of March so that under execution development projects are completed well in time.
Meeting was informed that 500 plots are being developed at Rakh-i-Arth for rehabilitation of Dal dwellers. As many as four pumping stations have been commissioned and main sewer line completed. It was informed that work on Rs 3.58 crore Corporate Hall is apace in Srinagar while Rs 20.78 crore are being spent on the construction of abattoir Haat at Nagrota in Jammu.
It was given out in the meeting that Rs 10.50 crore and Rs 9.50 crore have been earmarked for acquisition of land for development of garbage dumping site at Achan Srinagar and bus terminal at Katra respectively. A whopping amount of Rs 10 crore is being spent on renewal of old Srinagar city and development of Satellite Township, the meeting was told.
