| Four common treatment centres coming up in J&K: Sham | | | EARLY TIMES REPORT JAMMU, Feb 24: Minister for Health Sham Lal Sharma has said that four common treatment centres, two each in Jammu and Kashmir divisions for proper treatment of biomedical waste in health institutions will be installed shortly for which land is being identified. Minister revealed this while chairing a meeting convened here today to devise ways and means for proper treatment of bio medical waste generated in the government and private health institutions. Sham urged upon the concerned authorities to complete the process before closure of the current financial year so that the work is initiated at the earliest. He said that land should be suitably located along the highways from Nagrota to Samba and away from habitations, adding that land in Kashmir division should also be identified in consultation with the revenue authorities. He said that area to be identified must have all the basic facilities like, road connectivity, electricity, etc. Sham also said that in respect of inaccessible areas like Leh, Kargil districts and khalsi, the health institutions would be equipped with insulators for the treatment of bio medical waste. He said sufficient funds would be earmarked for these projects. He said all the required formalities with regard to clearance from Forest Department and Pollution Control Board need to be obtained immediately to avoid any delay in execution of these projects. Minister was informed that average bio medical waste in health institutions is generated between one and half kilogram to two kilogram per bed per day which needs proper treatment to avoid any kind of infection in the health institutions. He was also told that segregation of bio medical waste is must for its proper treatment for which dust bins will also be put in place.
