Election for vacant seats of LC in April | | | EARLY TIMES REPORT Jammu, Feb 24 : Election to six MLC seats is scheduled to be held in April. Six MLC are retiring in April. Besides, five seats are already vacant in the council. The National Conference and Congress have begun hectic lobbying to elect the legislators. The retiring MLCs include Abdul Rashid Quershi, T S Wazir, Altaf Wani and Showkat Ahmad Ganie from NC and Abdul Gani Vakil and Jehangir Mir from Congress. The council also has to elect MLCs from the Panchayat quota (2 each from Jammu and Kashmir regions) and vacant seat against the quota of Urban Local Bodies from Kashmir due to resignation of PDP leader Nizam-ud-Din Bhat after he was elected to the state Legislative Assembly. According to sources, the Congress president, Saif-ud-Din Soz has discussed the matter with Congress Chief, Sonia Gandhi. The NC, according to MLC,Sheikh Ghulam Rasool is likely to prefer candidates from unrepresented areas.
