Early Times Report
JAMMU, February 25: Powered by a superb knock of unbeaten 87 runs, studded with six fours and an equal number of sixes by first class cricketer, Dhruv Mahajan, Simula XI registered an impressive 45-run win over JU VC XI to enter finals of the Police Friendship Cup (T20) Cricket Tournament at University grounds, here today.
In the first semi-final, Simula XI rode on fabulous innings by Dhruv Mahajan and his 90 runs partnership with Hardeep Singh helped the side set a decent total of 168 runs losing five wickets.
While Hardeep scored 35, Nasir contributed 19 runs to the total. Dhruv, in particular, was in sublime form to score unbeaten 87. For VC XI, Arshid and Rajesh Verma took two wickets each while Raj Kumar claimed one.
In reply, VC XI batsmen had no answer to experienced Abdul Qyoom’s nagging line and teasing length, who plotted dismissal of dangerous Amit Billowria and hard-hitting Rajesh Verma in his very first over. It followed the dismissal of opener Govil (12), dismissed by skipper Hilal Rather in his second and innings’ third over.
Then a good partnership between Sourav Gupta (36) and Ameet Sharma (27) raised some hopes for the VC XI but after the dismissal of Sourav, who was going great guns, wickets fell at regular intervals and the whole team bundled-out for 123 runs.
Off spinner, Sameer Khajuria was pick of the bowlers from Simula XI, whole claimed three important wickets while veteran Abdul Qyoom took two. Hilal, Dhruv and Hardeep shared apiece each.
For his fabulous batting performance Dhruv Mahajan was adjudged man of the match.
