PDP to take part in budget session | | | Early Times Report SRINAGARFeb 25: Opposition Peoples Democratic Party (PDP), which had boycotted the summer session of the Assembly, will take part in the forthcoming budget session, party president Mehbooba Mufti said today. The PDP plans to corner the Omar-Abdullah-led Government on various issues during the budget session, she told. Mehmooba has called a meeting of PDP's legislators on Sunday to discuss the strategy for the forthcoming budget session of the State Assembly, which begins on February 28. Asked about the issues to be raised during the forthcoming session, Mehbooba said, "There are so many issues like the ground situation in Kashmir, continued harassment and detention of youth, lack of development, unemployment and backdoor appointments during the present regime. But, a strategy will be finalised after the Legislature party meet on Sunday." The party had boycotted the summer session which was held soon after a turbulent summer marked by violent protests in the Kashmir Valley, which left over 110 persons dead. "Not taking part in the summer session was to register our protest against the way the State Government handled the law and order situation and to express our solidarity with the people of Kashmir," Mehbooba told. "There was no point in taking part in the proceedings of the Assembly when the people, who are the fountainhead of power for the legislature, were held hostage by the State Government," she said. PDP has 21 MLAs in the 87-member State Assembly.
