Failure of Govt to initiate action, community halls Continue to become headache for people | | | Early Times Report JAMMU, Feb 25: The community halls in the state especially those situated in residential areas within Municipal limits of the twin capital cities of Srinagar and Jammu in the state have added to woes of the people residing in the vicinity. Though the Government had earlier warned of action against the community hall owners has later compromised on its policies by showing a total leniency towards the community hall owners and giving a free hand to them in violating the standing rules and regulations. As the marriage season is on its peak people living in the vicinities of community halls curse their fate as they have to pass sleepless nights due to the noise and environment pollution created in these localities. People had heaved a sigh of relief last time when the Government had initiated action against the community halls which do not comply with the set norms and rules made by the Government from time to time. The Government action had perturbed the community hall owners at that time but later the lenient approach shown by the Government has added to the woes of the people as the community hall owners continues to rule the roost and maintain their monopoly. According to residents of various localities in Jammu which house the community halls the people pass sleepless nights during the marriage season due to the noise of DG Sets being played in these community halls and bursting of crackers up to late in the night. The worst are hit the students whose examinations are drawing near. The parents of the children are worried for the future of their wards saying that they are unable to read for in the evening due to the noise pollution of community halls existing in their localities. The Government which is fully abreast of the problems is deliberately behaving like mute spectator allege the residents of a locality in the outskirts of Jammu city where a grand community halls has been constructed over a year back. Not only the ministers and bureaucrats but the Chief Minister has also attended one of the functions in the community hall over a day back. Though being fully aware of the problems created by these community halls for the residents of a particular place where such halls exist, the authorities at the helm of affairs prefer to ignore the issue giving all liberty to the community hall owners to have their monopoly. My son preparing for the entrance examinations could not sleep for a week due to the noise pollution created by playing of DJ Sets and bursting of crackers up to one am in a community hall situated in our locality. Moreover the environmental pollution caused due to bursting of crackers during the marriage period has also created health hazards for the people living in the vicinity of these marriage halls, said Ramesh Chander a social activist. Criticising the Government Ramesh wants to know what are the reasons which come in the way of authorities in taking action against the community hall owners who fail to comply the standing orders. Failure of the government in enforcing the standing rules in letter and spirit has made its credentials doubtful, he added. The soft corner of the Government towards the violators of law has also generated a lot of resentment against it. And in case the Government continues its stoic silence over the issue people will be forced to come to streets as they are left with no alternative except that said Ram Kumar Gupta of Bari Brahmnah.
