NSF hunger strike enters day 2, two activists hospitalized

JAMMU, Feb 25: Hunger strike of National Secular Forum (NSF) activists entered second day at University here today.
Two activists, Gurpreet Singh and Narinder Singh sitting on hunger strike fainted and were shifted to health care centre. However, others continue their sit in whereas students and scholars once again assembled near Vice-Chancellor Secretariat block and torched the effigy of Director General of Police to protest against the dictatorial attitude exhibited by the cops in campus on Saturday.
Activists sitting on hunger strike include Surjit Choudhary, Ravi Choudhary, Sunil Kumar, Shafqat Malik and Shri Ram. Protesting students have blamed the University administration for malfunctioning in the campus. Even the police are taking advantage of the situation and exhibiting high handedness.
Led by the NSF state president Vikas Sharma, activists shouted slogans against the Vice Chancellor, Prof Varun Sahni shielding the corrupt officials. “VC has miserably failed to initiate action against corrupt officials. Student funds are being embezzled by the officials for personal use and there is no accountability in the varsity,” Sharma said.
He further said the students had been facing problems in day to day problems but authorities are least bothered to pay any heed to their grievances. Ativists also shouted slogans against the Police department for illegally detaining the NSF president and JURSEA president, Rakesh Chib.
Surjit Choudhary Chairman District Unit, has said that if there will be no enquiry there will be continuous boycott of the classes by the scholars and the students. And, University authorities would be responsible for that. He also said this is totally unjustified and enquiry in this regard should be held. He further said that police always misbehave with the people and this is the reason that they have got bad name in the society.
