Churchill Brothers, Young Rovers in QFs of Rajiv football

JAMMU, Feb 26: Churchill Brothers and Young Rovers today made it to the
quarterfinals while Vijay Club reached the pre-quarterfinals stages of the ongoing Ist Rajiv Gandhi Gold Cup Football Tournament at GGM Science College ground, here.
Now, Churchill Brothers shall take on formidable J&K Police on February 28 while Young Rovers have been pitted against a team which is yet to be named in the fixture.
Earlier, in the first match of the day, Churchill Brothers registered a 3-1 win over Param Football Club (PC) in tie-breaker.
In the stipulated time the match ended in a goalless draw resulting into application of tie-breaker rules. From Param FC, only Vikram Singh could convert the penalty kick into goal while Roony, Max and Amanjot were successful from winners Churchill Brothers.
The tense game also witnessed a red card shown to Moon Madan of Churchill Brothers in the 65th minute. Yellow cards were shown to Roony (21st) and Shahbaz (18th).
In another pre-quarterfinal match of the day, Young Rovers blanked R&B 3-0. Amit scored first goal in the 23rd minute to give his side lead in the first half. Later, in the second half, two goals within three mintues guided Young Rovers to an impressive win. Jyoti Kumar in the 65th and Ankush in the 68th minute stunned the opponent defence.
The third match of the day was won by Vijay Club beating Young Hero Club 4-3 in tie breaker. Earlier, in the stipulated time, the match ended in a 1-1 draw. Sachin took the first lead for Vijay Club in the 50th minute but only to find Tushar Gurang bringing in equalizer in the 60th minute
In tie-breaker, Vijay Club emerged winner with Nainjot Singh, Sahil Lehal and Vinay netting the ball while Gautam and Sachin missed. From losers Young Hero, Tushar and Chandan were successful in converting the penalty kicks while Mukesh, Rahul and Babbar missed.
Today’s matches were officiated by Muzzaffar, Rakesh Kumar, Farooq Ahmed, Hilal Ahmed, Roony, Moon Madan, Suresh Kumar Gupta, Rajesh Kumar, Ketan Kumar and Gagan Kumar.
