GOC Tiger Div flags in Trans India Territorial
Army Cycle expedition

Jammu, Feb 26: The Trans India Territorial Army Cycle Expedition team of 157 Infantry Battalion (Territorial Army) (Home & Hearth)-better known as Jammu Terriers was flagged in by Maj Gen TPS Waraich, VSM, General Officer Commanding, Tiger Division, today.
The seven member team including one Junior Commissioned Officer and six Other Rank started their journey from Jammu on 03 Jan 2011 and returned after successfully completing the journey.
During the 52-day expedition, the cyclists covered 3000Kms over four States, ie, J&K, Punjab, Haryana and Rajasthan.
The theme of this expedition was to spread awareness among people about drying up of wetlands and shrinking of wildlife sanctuaries. The team also highlighted the significance of war memorials and world heritage sites and subsequently educated the populace about their relevance and need for their preservation.
The GOC interacted with the cyclists and lauded their efforts to make the expedition successful.
While interacting with media persons, he said that “the Expedition has not only strengthened the spirit of adventure and challenge among all ranks but also contributed towards development of leadership, planning, teamwork and navigation skills of the participants.
Besides testing the physical and mental stamina of the cyclists, the rally, was instrumental in publicizing the concept of Territorial Army and has been a great help in motivating the youth to serve the Nation in uniform.” He also assured full cooperation to the cyclists for future expeditions.
The expedition also promoted environmental awareness, national integration and security consciousness among people in the countryside. The expedition provided a wonderful opportunity for the Terriers to learn more about the country as the team visited various places of historical and cultural interest.
