Workshop on use of modern technology held | | | EARLY TIMES REPORT Jammu, Feb 26: Two days workshop on use of modern technology in planning, execution and monitoring of forestry worker was today organised by the Agrostology wing of Forest Department in Sidhra and was inaugurated by the chief conservator of forest Suresh Chugh. During the workshop, the participants were given basic training on how to use Global Positioning System (GPS) technology for recording locational parameters like coordinates altitudes etc in field. Associate Professor in SKUAST, BC Sharma, made a presentation on the rehabilitation of parthenium degraded pastures, 25 participants of forest department attended the workshop. While delivering the keynote address to the participants, Chugh stated that the GPS technology is very handy tool for forest officer as it can be used to measure distances, areas, slope etc in difficult terrain where use of conversational instruments is cumbersome. “GPS is also very effective for documenting and monitoring location of various works in filed. When used in conjunction with other technologies like Geographical Information System (GIS) and communication technology, it can be an effective tool for bringing transparency and accountability in execution of works.
