NC legislative Party meeting | Mantra for legislators: maintain regularity....... do not react to opposition provocations | | EARLY TIMES REPORT Jammu, Feb 26: Even though it was a routine , rather customary meeting held every time ahead of the Legislative session, the MLAs of ruling National Conference got a typical 'classroom' instruction from the High Command in today's meeting: Maintain regularity.......be patient and maintain restraint.......do not react to Opposition reactions. In the Legislative party meeting held this evening at party headquarters, the ruling party had some serious business too on agenda: discussing the general strategy to be adopted on key matters inside both the houses besides deliberating the bills and resolutions which will come up during the proceedings of the session. These directions did not come as mere instructions in the meetings but the legislators were asked to follow these in spirit inside the House, sources said adding that 'maintaining cool and calm' will be the mantra of the ruling NC members seen during the budget session beginning from February 28. Sources said the High command of the party is apprehensive of a stormy session in the wake of certain aberrations the opposition, both BJP as well as NC's main rival PDP has been finding in the governance of the coalition government, though on separate matters. While PDP is all set to take up the issues of recent incidents of human rights violations , killings in parts of Kashmir valley besides the failure of the government in fulfilling the promises and assurances in the aftermath of summer unrest, the House, NC feels will resound with the clamour and pandemonium they (PDP) might create. Sources said that NC leaders observed that PDP will try the stall the proceedings of the House under the garb of these issues which would hamper conducting the proceedings smoothly. The proceedings will get affected when the members from the treasury benches will react to the accusations and allegations of the opposition, it was felt by the NC high command. As such it was not in the interests of the government as a whole and NC in particular to get the proceedings stalled and hampered by either way and therefore it would not be wise to react to the 'provocative' tactics of the opposition, the MLAs were told in the meeting. They were further instructed that even as the opposition resorts to such tactics, the NC members would maintain restraint and patience. The idea behind adopting cool and calm strategy was to ensure smooth passage of the Budget as also enable the government to carry on with some important business including some very important bills and resolutions. Besides this, one more instruction that was conveyed to the members of both the Houses was to ensure regular presence and show seriousness towards each and every part of the proceedings during the session. The presence of all the members almost daily has been sought apparently in order to ensure passage of some resolutions and bills smoothly , The members were also instructed to have complete coordination with the coalition partner and present itself as a cohesive and united face of the party. While the meeting was addressed mainly by the Chief Minister and other senior leaders of the party who shared their views on certain political matters, some members from outside Jammu could not attend the meeting as they could not reach Jammu in time due to one or the other reason. |
