Traffic remain suspended on NH 1-A
2/28/2011 12:40:27 AM
EARLY TIMES REPORT
Jammu,Feb 27 : The Jammu-Srinagar-National Highway remained closed for vehicular traffic for the second day today due to fresh snowfall and landslides. "The vehicular movement was suspended on NH 1-A from either Srinagar or Jammu this morning,'' an official spokesman said.
He said the highway was closed for vehicular traffic on February 25 evening, after fresh spell of snowfall and rains rendered the arterial road unsafe. A traffic police official said fresh spell of snowfall and rains led to landslides and uprooting of trees at several places on the Highway which forced the closure of Highway. Hundreds of vehicles including passenger buses and cabs are stranded at several places and efforts are on to clear these vehicles, the spokesman said, adding if weather permits, all stranded vehicles will be allowed to move towards their respective destinations.
