EARLY TIMES REPORT
Jammu, Feb 27: With parties in opposition having chalked out their strategies to take on NC led coalition government in the state on a host of issues, the budget session is likely to commence on a stormy note on the first day when the Governor NN Vohra will address the joint session of Legislature tomorrow. Both BJP and PDP may raise respective issues vehemently tomorrow during the joint session and may try to disrupt the proceedings while drawing attention of the Governor towards these issues.
Main opposition PDP held its Legislative Party meeting today in which the party formally drew up its strategy to be adopted from the very first day of the Legislature. The party, it is pertinent to mention had stayed away from the Autumn session of Assembly in the summer capital after having decided to boycott in a bid not to give credence and legitimacy to whatever the NC led government was doing at that time in the backdrop of the unrest in Kashmir valley. One of the reasons PDP had given for the boycott was that the session was only for five days, too small a period during which they could not take up the issues confronting people. However, this time, the session being long enough and crucial on account of presentation of budget, the opposition party will attend it.
Sources said PDP, on expected lines will aggressively take up the issues core to its agenda and political ideology and is all set to launch offensive on more than one front against the coalition government, though the target mainly will be its rival NC. Sources said that the party will corner the government primarily on the issues of human rights violations in Kashmir but the core matter which the party will hit government on is the ongoing spree of arrests and detentions, frequent invoking of PSAs, use of force against the protestors in Valley which according to the party leadership has given a sense of siege to the masses, sources said . The PDP will hit out at government for its failure to come out with a series of healing steps that were assured in the post unrest period by both Centre and state.
Sources also indicated that PDP may not bring a specific resolution on self rule, which was earlier envisaged fearing it would be rejected in the event of voting, but the legislators would raise the matters given in the document in separate steps so as to draw home their points effectively in both the Houses. In this, the House would witness separate bills and resolutions from PDP on withdrawal of AFSPA, DAA and withdrawal of forces. The party legislators would question the government on issues of governance but more importantly it would raise the issues related to Kashmir issue in a strong and vehement manner while trying to occupy most of the space and opportunity, sources said.
The Bhartiya Janata Party, on the other hand will take up the issues core to its nationalist ideology as also the issues of governance where it feels government has failed to deliver. However, sources said the Party would make its presence feel in a big way tomorrow as it might enter the Hall along with tricolour in order to register its resentment and anger against alleged disrespect to the tiranga what the party was made to face at the hands of state government when it wanted to unfurl the national flag at Lal Chowk on January 26. has also finalized its strategy to corner the government. BJP will also raise the issues of governance and the failure of the coalition to deliver on many fronts.
