| 25 free cataract operations performed at Latti | | | UDHAMPUR, NOVEMBER 12 Over 360 patients suffering from various eye ailments were examined and 25 eye operations were performed during a 3-day Eye Camp held at Latti situated at a distance of 80 kilometers from district headquarter on Udhampur -Dudu road, yesterday. The camp was organized by the Health Department, Udhampur in collaboration with District Blindness Control Society, Udhampur. The Chief Medical Officer, Udhampur, Dr. J.K. Gupta inaugurated the camp. Ophthalmologists of District Hospital, Udhampur, Dr. R.K. Gupta and Dr. Nirmal Gupta performed the eye operations. A local volunteer, Mr. Kasturi Lal Gupta and other citizens of Latti provided free diet to the patients and their attendants during camp days. Free medicine and spectacles were also provided to the patients. Health Education Bureau, Directorate of Health Services, Jammu also organized an awareness programme in the premises of Govt. Higher Secondary School, Latti on November 10, 2006 which was attended by over 300 students, teachers and people. The Chief Medical Officer, Udhampur and Assistant Director, Health Services, Jammu, Dr. J.S. Khorana also delivered lectures on seven killer diseases including AIDS and suggested preventive measures from these dreaded diseases. They also spoke about the newly launched National Rural Health Mission (NRHM) for the general awareness of the masses. The people of the area demanded holding of more such camps in far-flung areas so that poor could avail the benefits. |
