ST status to Pahari Speaking, illegitimate move: TUF | | | EARLY TIMES REPORT Jammu, March 01: Sharply reacting to the assurance of Chief Minister, Omar Abdullah, to take up, the issue of granting ST status in favour of Pahari speaking people, activists of Gujjar communities termed this move of government as un constitutional and illegitimate. Justifying their stand of opposing ST status to Pahari speaking people, the leaders of J&K Tribal United Forum (TUF), an organization working for the affairs of Gujjar & Bakerwal, in a meeting held here today threatened the State Government of state-wide agitation if this unconstitutional demand of the elite classes is supported. Opposing the demand of ST status to Pahari speaking people, Roshan Din Choudhary, President of Forum said, “Paharis are a linguistic group and bear no criteria to be qualified as tribal by any standard”. Zabeer Ahmed Bajjar, General Secretary of TUF while speaking on the occasion said that more than 90% Pahari speaking people belong to upper caste groups .“Pahari speaking groups have already been enjoying the benefits of more than 30% reservation under RBA, ALC, OSC and OBC categories,” he added. Among others present in the meeting were Tanwir Ahmed, Shah Mohd., N. Hussain, Advocate Khalid Mustafa Bhatti, Prof. Arif Sajad, Tanzir Khatana, Khursheed Ul Islam and Advocate Pervaiz Choudhary.
