| Real (e)state business; Govt puts IB, IT Deptt on job | | | Jammu, Nov 12 State government is all set to further tighten the nose around the people involved in the land transaction business, including some senior police and revenue officials, across the state especially in Jammu and Srinagar cities. If sources in the power corridors have to be believed many skeletons are likely to tremble out of the cup board of revenue and police departments as Intelligence Bureau has been entrusted the job of collecting information about the major land transactions made in Jammu and Srinagar, during last ten years. “IB and Taxation Departments have started collecting the relevant information from various office of Sub-Registrars in Jammu and Srinagar so as to prepare the list of those persons who have accumulated huge wealth in the so called real estates business across the state”, sources revealed. It was reliably learnt that the government is sharpening double edge sword for the land grabbers and government officials who were allegedly misusing their official positions for their own vested interests. “It is known to every one that some police and revenue officials are directly associated with the business”, sources claimed adding; “The record in the Sub Registrar offices would itself reveal the name of those officials who would be dealt with accordingly”. The purpose of the exercise, sources said, was to shortlist those persons who have not only accumulated huge wealth in the business but were also evading tax payment by concealment of their source of income. “While the government officers would be handled departmentally the property deals are likely to face the axe from Income Tax department”, added the sources. |
