Question Hour in Legislative Assembly | Funds released for flood affected in Kupwara: Bhalla | | Early Times Report JAMMU, Mar 1: Minister for Revenue Raman Bhalla today informed legislative assembly that an amount of Rs 50 lakh has been released for rescue and relief operation to the flood affected families of Kupwara district. He added that Rs 32.14 lakh have been provided as cash assistance to 93 affected families, who had suffered losses to their residential houses during floods of August 2010 and Rs 2.24 lakh were provided as financial assistance in the shape of input subsidy to the farmers of the area. This was stated by the Minister in reply to a question raised by Saifullah Mir in the House. Bhalla said an amount of Rs. 1 crore was directly placed at the disposal of District development Commissioner Kupwara for temporary restoration of public utilities. Moreover, the Divisional Commissioner Kashmir has also provided funds to the tune of Rs 50 lakh to District development Commissioner Kupwara out of the funds placed with him by the Government for the purpose. Minister said in order to restore damages to public utilities due to floods in the district, Rs 70 lakh have been released to PHE department, Rs 9.86 lakh to Power department and Rs 53.14 lakh to R&B department. Giving details of the damages caused during July and August 2010, floods in Kupwara district, Minister said that 5500 hectares of agriculture and horticulture land was damaged and crop loss was more than 50 per cent.
