| New State BJP president on mission reconciliation | | | Jammu, Nov 12 Immediately after assuming the job of Bhartiya Janta Party state president, Ashok Khajuria is on reconciliation mission to bring all factions of the party together. The newly elected president, sources said, is visiting veteran leaders of the party, including those who were either sidelined by the BJP or considered opponent to the previous body. Sources in BJP said that Khajuria has so far visited former Union Minister Prof Chaman Lal Gupta, Ex-party president Thakur Baldev Singh, former MLA Lala Shiv Charan Gupta and others. He met these leaders in their respective residences and sought blessing as well as their co-operation to run the party affairs in Jammu and Kashmir where the BJP has suffered a series of political jolts during the past several years. The `mission reconciliation’ had in fact began even before the formal election of Khajuria as the new State BJP president on November 8. A few hours before the function at BJP headquarters, Khajuria reportedly dashed to Prof Chaman Lal Gupta’s residence at Gandhi Nagar for seeking his blessings despite the fact that it was the latter and his supporters who had opposed former’s nomination tooth and nail as new State president. On the very next day of his election, Khajuria visited Lala Shiv Charan Gupta in Udhampur who is also considered from the opponent faction, sources told News Agency of Kashmir, here today. Sources said that Saturday’s Kathua visit was in the schedule where Khajuria met veteran octogenarian leader and former president Thakur Baldev Singh to whom the former urged to guide in shaping future strategy for rejuvenating the party in Jammu and Kashmir. Interestingly, sources disclosed, Khajuria also visited the BJP rival and president of J&K Praja Parishad Chander Mohan Sharma who along with some other party leaders had formed the new outfit last year. Though the sources close to Khajuria and Chander Mohan Sharma claimed that the former sought co-operation for strengthening the party and latter wished him good luck, insiders believe that the BJP may soon witness home coming of the Praja Parishad leader and some others. The meeting has also made nervous the former Mayor and BJP Jammu district president Kavinder Gupta since return of Chander Mohan Sharma to the party fold can create trouble for him in getting the party ticket for the next Assembly elections from Jammu West. |
