EARLY TIMES REPORT
JAMMU, Mar 1: 9,454 residents of Pakistan occupied Kashmir (PoK) visited their relatives in Jammu and Kashmir over the last five years after obtaining permission from the authorities, the State government said today.
Replying to the question of Mohammad Yusuf Taing in the Legislative Council during the Question Hour, Minister for Industries and Commerce Surjit Singh Slathia said that during the last five years, 9,454 PoK residents visited "our side of Line of Control under the permit system till February 24, 2011".
Cross-border travel under the LoC permit system was started on April 7, 2005, he said. "The permit system is already running in an easy way and recently triple entry permit system for senior citizens has also been introduced to make it easier," he told the house.
Along the LoC, there are two entry points-Chakan-Da-Bagh in Poonch district and Kaman-Salamabad area in Baramulla district of Kashmir Valley-from where people from two sides cross the border to meet and stay with their relatives on either side of the LoC.
