Khajuria's remarks infuriate NC, PDP members | | | Jammu : Arch-rivals National Conference and Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) were seen up in arms against senior leader of Bhartiya Janata Party and Party’s legislator Ashok Khajuria when he used the expresssion 'Islamic Fundamentalism' while partcipating in the discussion on Governor's Address. While commenting on terrorist and extremist ideoplogies, which he said were the main cause of trouble in Kashmir BJP MLA Ashok Khajuria said anti-nationalist forces are needed to be rooted out of the Jammu and Kashmir to restore peace in the region.
The MLA said Jammu and Kashmir is a state which is headed by those who appease separatists' ideology and enemies of nationalist forces. He also said that frequent unrests were more of the nature of law and order problem which needed to be handled well by the government.
However, his remarks that ‘Islamic Fundamentalism’ should be crushed for the betterment of the state infuriated both both PDP and NC legislators who in one voice created uproar and sought an apology from the MLA.
They said the legislator has intentionally raised the issue to create differences adding that he has hurt the sentiments of the entire Islamic community.
''He should apologise for his remarks and hurting the sentiments of the people,'' Minister of State for Sheep and Animal Husbandry Ruhullah asked the Chair of the Speaker. However, the Speaker Mohammad Akbar Lone intervened and pacified the angry legislators saying they need not get angry over the remarks as everyone knows what Islam stands for nor should anyone be ignorant about the real tenets of Islam. |
