Hope Prime Minister will intervene: J&K Gujjars | | | EARLY TIMES REPORT Jammu, Mar 2: Ahead of Prime Minister’s scheduled visit to Jammu for tomorrow, the Gujjars of Jammu and Kashmir today sought Manmohan Singh’s intervention in resolution of issues facing by Schedule Tribe community of State. In a Statement issued by Tribal Research and Cultural Foundation –a frontal organization of Gujjars today sought resolution five major issues pending with union government of India includes raising of Gujjar Regiment in Indian Army ,opening of Tribal University in J&K, Inclusion of Gojri into eighth Schedule of Indian constitution, providing of due time slat to Gori on Radio and DD Channels and conduct of Special census of nomadic Gujjars and Bakerwals. Dr. Javaid Rahi , National Secretary of Tribal Foundation told here that there are five major demands of Gujjars stands unresolved with centre since long. He said our tribe hope that Prime Minister will intervene in the matter for resolution. He said Gujjars are demanding for raising of a full-fledged ‘Gujjar Regiment’ in the Army on the pattern of Jat, Raput and Dogra Regiments since 1947 and hoped that PM’s intervention can provide justice to Gujjars of J&K. Another issue, he said ,was demand of opening of Tribal University which is still pending with centre hoped that PM will announce about this demand which if established will promote studies and research in tribal art, culture, tradition, language, custom, medicinal systems, forest based economic activities, including special studies in the flora and fauna, and advancements in technologies relating to natural resources of the tribal areas of the state, he said. The demand of providing of due share to Gojri language on AIR and DD is also pending with Ministry of Information and broadcasting needs early resolutions.
