Unwarranted delays obstructing development in Doda: Wani
3/2/2011 11:25:12 PM
EARLY TIMES REPORT
JAMMU, Mar 2: MLA Doda Abdul Majid Wani has expressed serious concern over inordinate delay adopted by some government agencies in implementation of crucial public utility projects in Doda region.
Doda region is among the most underdeveloped areas of the state and known as state’s shadow zone; it is only during last one decade that major development projects have been taken up by the State as well as Union Government in this earlier forbidden region.
There are glaring examples like abandoning of work for construction of Ganpat Bridge and Shiva Dal Bridge across the mighty River Chenab. The much important bridge over River Chenab at Shiva Dal is being delayed on one or other pretext.
Reportedly, even the tender process got completed but allotment was not made only in order to accommodate some other agency, which earlier could not participate in tender process. What-so-ever is the reason but this remains a fact that the work for construction Shiva Dal Bridge could not be started, even after a lapse of one & half years, due to red tapism as well as serious procedural delay/ laxity.
Likewise, the prestigious project of Ganpat Bridge was started in August 2006, with a promise to complete the bridge before commissioning of the Baglihar hydroelectric project as it was predicted that with the filling of reservoir, the only bridge connecting Doda would get submerged.
More than four-and-a-half years have already passed, but there is no sign of the completion of the bridge. The work stands abandoned and the concerned Government Agency seems to be non-serious about completion of this project, which, infact, is lifeline for the people of Doda and Kishtwar.
People, here, strongly feel that few government officers sitting at divisional offices in Jammu or civil secretariat at Jammu/ Srinagar have practically brought more complicacies rather then ameliorating the sufferings of downtrodden.
All Such government functionaries who are responsible for delaying these important projects need to be made accountable, MLA said
