Roshan wins historic gold for J&K Police in wrestling

JAMMU, March 03: Constable Roshan today created history when he won first ever gold for Jammu and Kashmir Police in wrestling (Greco Roman) in the ongoing 59th All India Police Games (Wrestling Cluster) at jam-packed Indoor Complex of MA Stadium, here.
Roshan defeated his superior opponent from Central Reserve Police Force (CRPF) in a well-contested final of 84 kg weight category. The final was witnessed by host of senior officers of the Police, including organizing secretary and Additional Director General of Police (ADGP), K Rajendra and ADGP, Ram Lubhaya.
Soon after the final bout was over, both ADGPs patted the gold winner Roshan and later presented medals to those first three position holders in different weight categories decided today.
Meanwhile, a women lifter, Sudesh Kumari made the host Police proud by securing fifth of the six places awarded in 53 kg category with Tikina Gopal of CISF winning the gold.
In the meantime, competition in other team events of Gymnastics, Judo and Boxing was in preliminary stages on the second day of the competition today.

WEIGHTLIFTING: Making her maiden attempt, Sudesh Kumari of J&K bagged fifth place in women’s 53 kg category. In this weight group, Tikina Gopal of CISF and Shaya Devi bagged first and second place respectively.
The Results: WOMEN: 53 kg: Tikina Gopal, CISF, Ist; Shaya Devi, ITBP, 2nd; Ibeyai Devi, BSF, 3rd; Th Manitombi Devi, CRPF, 4th; Sudesh Kumari, J&K Police, 5th and Farjana F Pathan, Gujarat, 6th. 48 kg: NG Sonia Chandu, UP, Ist; Sandhya Rani, CRPF, 2nd; Deepa Mahara, UKD, 3rd; Sharda Siddi, Karnataka, 4th; Asha Rani, BSF, 5th and Supriya Patil, Maharashtra, 6th. 56 kg: Vikram, CRPF, Ist; Kathipesan, Tamil Nadu, 2nd;’ P Haridas, BSF, 3rd; Rizwan Ahmed, BSF, 4th; Umesh Pawar, Maharashtra, 5th and P Satya Narayan Mishra, Gujarat, 6th.

GYMNASTICS: Last year’s champion, Border Security Force (BSF) and Ist runners-up, Punjab Police remained neck to neck in men’s gymnastics team event started today at BSF Frontier Headquarters, Paloura, near here. The officials witnessed a hectic schedule, following the team events of men and women.
