| Opposition unanimous in condemning mishandling of K-situation | | | EARLY TIMES REPORT JAMMU, Mar 3: Initiating debate on the adjournment motion moved by the People’s Democratic Party on Kashmir scenario, Nizam-ud-Din Bhat said that youth arrested on petty crimes should be released immediately. He said 4792 youth of the Valley were detained on charges of stone throwing during the last summer and are still in different jails. Government should review their cases and provide them justice, he said. Leader of the opposition, Mehbooba Mufti alleged that 115 civilian deaths occurred in 2010 unrest. She said that government simply announced employment policy for the youth but did nothing concrete to punish the culprits responsible for the killings of innocent youth. She said that Kashmiri youth need sympathy and those detained under PSA should be released. “We all should think to resolve the problems of Kashmir youth irrespective of party lines instead of using force against them”, she said. A.R. Veeri said that government mishandled the situation and resorted to firing on the peaceful protestors in Valley. Government itself worsened the situation which led to death of many innocent youth, he said. Nazir Gurezi maintained that no party should try to take political mileage on this sensitive issue. Everyone is equally concerned. He said that PDP itself is responsible for the killing of youth in Kashmir as they instigated the innocent youths for stone pelting. They rather put fuel on the fire and whipped up the sentiments of youth. “Why did not they participate in the All Party Meeting convened by the Prime Minister in 2010 to discuss the situation”, he questioned. Mir Saifullah said that large number of PDP workers was involved in stone pelting and instigating the innocent youths. PDP itself is responsible for the killing of innocent youth. He said that PDP showed totally indifferent attitude during the agitation and never made any appeal to the youth to shun the path of stone pelting/ violence. They did not cooperate to diffuse the situation; he said and added their lack of co-operation complicated the situation. Er. Rashid asked the political parties to stop playing with the sentiments of innocent Kashmir youth instead all should make efforts for their release from different jails. He also raised the issue of detenues in Kote Bhalwal and requested for giving them fair deal.
