EARLY TIMES REPORT
JAMMU, Mar 3: To give fillip to heritage tourism in the Jammu region, an ambitious Rs 5 crore project is under active consideration of the government for the development of Khoon and Khooneshwar Temple, in the periphery of the famous Mansar Lake in Udhampur district.
“This will be a major step towards developing this beautiful village blessed with this ancient temple, historic caves with idols of Lord Shiva, Parvati and Pandvas on the lines of Shiv Khori and similar other pilgrim places”, said a senior official at the annual Mahashivratri-cum-Grameen Mela held on the auspicious occasion of Shivrati yesterday.

Mela was organized by Destitute and Handicapped Welfare Association (DAHWA) in conjunction with the District Administration, Udhampur in which thousands of people from the peripheral areas participated, notwithstanding the day long downpour. Several stalls were established by Agriculture, Horticulture, Rural development, Sericulture, Social Welfare and other related departments, which remained the major attraction for the rural populace.
The development project for the village and Khooneshwar temple has been devised by DAHWA and is being examined by the State Tourism Department for early implementation. According to Mandir Committee, the temple occupies 17th place in the most famous temples in northern part of the country in which different kinds of fishes in the Bowli (water Body) and flowing water bodies fortunate the tourists in which blooded stones speaks the tale of history.
Chairman of DAHWA, Surat Singh Sumbria, has urged upon the government to observe the annual Mahashivratri festival officially. He said that it will go a long way in satiating the religious inspirations of the devotees and the people of the area, as infrastructural development will give rise to the influx of pilgrim tourists which will eventually lead to larger economic activity in the area.
