Up in arms against police over woman's abduction, people burn SHO's effigy | | | EARLY TIMES REPORT JAMMU, March 03 : Alleging that police did not act speedly to recover the woman abducted by some armed men from Sarno Monday last, people today held an anti-police demonstration at Dhangri Chowk in Rajouri and burnt the effigy of SHO concerned. Nisha (22) of Sarno was returning home from the village river after washing clothes when some armed men had Monday last abducted her on gun point at about 4 pm. Sarno is situated on the outskirts of Rajouri town. Soon after Nisha's abduction, her husband Pawan Kumar and their relatives had lodged a report with the Rajouri police station. When, even after three days of the incident, police could not find any trace of Nisha and her kidnappers, the angry relatives and villagers today gathered at Dhangri Chowk and held a massive anti-police demonstration. They also burnt the effigy of SHO of Rajouri police station. They alleged that had the police acted timely, the woman could have been recovered and the accused arrested. VHP, BJP, Bajrang Dal and Sanatan Dharam Sabha activists also came in support of the villagers and joined the protest. They said if the woman was not recovered within 48 hours, they would launch an agitation in Rajouri. VHP leader Rajeev Rotra said minorities in remote areas of Rajouri and Poonch districts were not safe.Later, a delegation of villagers, led by Sarno sarpanch Nirdosh Khajuria, called on SSP, Rajouri, and asked him to help in the early recovery of Nisha, or get ready for an agitation. VHP's Rotra and Sat Pal, BJP's Bharat Bhushan Vaid, Yogesh Sharma and Rajinder Gupta, Sanatan Dharam Sabha's Dinesh Sharma and Karan Singh of Bajrang Dal were also part of the delegation.After their meeting with the SSP, the people dispersed peacefully.
