BJP's 'remarks' create furore in Assembly again | Sagar retorts, says do not forget "RSS role" in blasts | | kunal shrivatsa EARLY TIMES REPORT JAMMU, Mar 3: After senior Bharatiya Janta Party legislator Ashok Khajuria's controversial remarks on Tuesday in the State Legislative Assembly in the ongoing budget session, the saffron party again created a furor in the House today as BJP Legislature Party leader Prof Chaman Lal Gupta said that Muslims need to show their loyalty towards the nation. The government, however, once again showed utmost restraint in reacting to BJP leader's remarks and responded in a 'mild tone' over the issue like it did over Ashok Khajuria's comments. Agitated over BJP leader's remarks, Minister for Law and Parliamentary Affairs Ali Mohammad Sagar said that Prof Chaman is one of the most senior Members in the Assembly and all of us look towards him to learn something from his vast political experience, but his remarks have hurt religious sentiments of the majority of members. "A day before yesterday one of your party colleagues raised a controversial issue and today your comments have created a ruckus in the House." Ali Mohammad Sagar said Sagar said we don't believe in using such tone and tenor otherwise we could have also made allegations on RSS for its alleged role in recent bomb blasts in different parts of the country. "Aap Pehle Apne Girebaan Mein Jhaank Kar Dekh Lo (You better look at yourself). We never charged RSS for Malegaon, Mecca Masjid or Ajmer blasts or its Chief Mohan Bhagwat for these bomb blasts. You have no right to hurt sentiments of millons of Muslims", Sagar said. The moment senior BJP leader uttered these words while speaking during the Vote of Thanks on the Governor's Address, members cutting across party lines got infuriated and stood up to raise their objections over the remarks. Gupta said that Muslims should be loyal to the country and Islamic fundamentalism is a cause of big concern being faced by all of us. Reacting sharply over BJP leader's remarks, the Congress MLA from Bhaderwah Mohammad Sharief Niaz termed it as provocative and uncalled for. "Muslims don't need a certificate from any political party or anyone else for nationalism…. No one rakes up the issue of religion when it comes to Maoists. You cannot hurt the sentiments of people and play politics over it", Niaz said. NC MLA from Gurez Nazir Gurezi while condemning Prof Chaman's remarks said, "The House should take notice of repeated use of word 'Islamic fundamentalism' by the BJP members in the Assembly…. You cannot hurt our sentiments; Islam is religion which has spread message of peace the world over". Hakeem Mohammad Yaseen, who was in the Chair, however, expunged BJP legislative party leader Prof Chaman Lal's remarks after members strongly objected to it. Earlier Prof Chaman Lal Gupta termed the Governor's address just routine which is brought every year in the House. "Governor Ki Takreer Purana Geet Hai, Kuch Naya Nahin Hai Is Mein (It is the same old song ….There is nothing new in Governor's address)", Gupta said. Talking about the repeated references about the resolution of Kashmir issue, Gupta said that its quite surprising that when Constitution of India and J&K Constitution has declared Jammu and Kashmir as integral part of India, then what is the issue. |
