PM's JU visit turns institute into an impregnable fortress | | | mishu gupta EARLY TIMES REPORT Jammu, Mar 3 : While the Prime Minsiter is scheduled to attend third Convocation of SKUAST University function at Zorawar Singh Auditorium tomorrow, the entire Jammu University campus has been turned into a fortress, restricting free movement of students and hostel boarders. Since morning the entire campus of Jammu University (JU) was dotted with security personnel to ensure secure visit of expected VIPs, . Students and scholars, especially the boarders of the Vivekananda Hostel and Nehru Hall, while speaking to said: " They said the hostel mess was closed for some days so they had to go outside for meals and other purposes. "These are exam days and our friends keep on visiting hostel to consult on certain topics but they were denied entry into campus," they said. The students who have been preparing for semester examinations, besides preparing for IAS, KAS and other competitive exams, at the central library had to go back disappointed as they were reportedly denied entry into the campus. Rahul a student activist, said: "The university has turned into a hub for political activities. Meanwhile, teaching and non-teaching staff putting up in the residential quarters of the university rued that they were made subject to unsolicited enquiries at the main gate. However, the university authorities were tightlipped over the issue and declined to comment. Meanwhile to thwart any posssibilty of terror attack The police department has made heavy deployment of police in Jammu in view of the Prime Minister Manmohan Singh's visit to inaugurate the residential quarters at Jagti in Nagrota and to participate in the convocation of Sher-e-Kashmir University of Agriculture Sciences and Technology at Chatha in Jammu outskirts. Hundreds of police personnel have been deployed across Jammu, while hundreds would soon join their colleague to keep security in and around the two venues to avoid any unwanted incident. The sources said that the Jammu University would also remain closed for two days from March 3 to March 4 due to security reasons. "The Jammu University has been seized by the security agencies," the sources added. The police sources said that the Prime Minister has been arriving technical airport Jammu tomorrow . "Over 50 security agencies personnel including central pool of Jammu and Kashmir Police and anti high jacking team under the supervision of a top police official have been deployed in side the technical airport to ensure security," the police sources again said. The again said that around 3500 cops have been deployed at various places would be deployed where the Prime Minister has been scheduled to visit. The sources said that the police alongwith other security agencies today held a mock drill at Manda area and Airport to Chatha area. They said that the special protection group of Prime Minister has already reached Jammu and they have been busy in looking after the affairs of security in the scheduled venues. While there would be no major traffic restrictions, the police official said, the prime ministers vehicles would be use only one road and the traffic would be stopped for merely few minutes. |
