SC, ST, OBC Mahasabha met PM, put forth demands | | | EARLY TIMES REPORT Jammu , March 4: A deputation of SC/ST and OBC Maha sabha led by Bodh Raj Bhagat and Madan Lal Chalotra President and General secretary of the sabha met the Prime Minister Dr. Manmohan Singh at Governor House and submitted a memorandum of demands. In a memorandum, the Mahasabha had demanded political reservations to scheduled castes and OBC's on the basis of their population. It is pertinent to mention that not a single MLC/MLA/ Minister belong to OBC Community in the State. They also demanded appointment of SC/OBC VC for Central University, Jammu is still not functional. The memorandum further stated that since the Mandai Commission report has been implemented in all other parts of India except in J&K, where OBC has been provided with paltry 2% rReservation as against the 27% in gross violation of even the Supreme Court of India's verdict of providing 27% Reservation to OBC communities / castes. The mal population of OBC Communities / castes is more than 60% in J&K and majority of them is Muslims. The State Commission for Backward Classes (OBC) of J&K since its inception has been headed by Non-Backward Chairman’s. The Chairman and Members of the Commission should be among the people belonging to backward castes. They stated that ongoing Census 2011 was meaningless until exact populations of each section or castes along with their social, educational and economical status was not collected. Prime Minister after giving a patient hearing to them assured early redressal of the same. The other members who accompanied the delegation and Darshan Singh Azad, Raj Kapoor, Sham Lal Gandhi, Raj Kumar Chowdhary and Maheshwar Vishwakarma.
