Various delegations meet PM, submits memorandums | | | EARLY TIMES REPORT JAMMU, Mar 4: Number of delegation today met Prime Minister Manmohan Singh during his one day visit to Jammu. A five member delegation of Federation of Industries (FoI), Jammu met PM and presented him with a memorandum related to problems faced by the industrial sector in the state and need for providing a special package for the revival of the industry. Delegation was led by the chairman of the federation T S Reen appealed Prime Minister to give due consideration to their demands. The statement issued by the federation says that PM had assured them that there issues will be addressed. Those who were part of the delegation include, Annil Suri, Co-Chairman FOI, Lalit Mahajan, Secretary General FOI, Variender Jain, and S.B. Abrol. Meanwhile a deputation of Akhil Bhartiya Gujar Mahasabha, J&K chapter also met Prime Minister and appealed him to give directions to the government to implement the various welfare measures initiated for the tribal community properly. A delegation led by Ishfaq-ur-Rehman Poswal apprised him of the various problems being confronted by the most backward community of the State. Gujjars have demanded separate ministry be established to provide various welfare measures for the community. Memorandum submitted by the community says that during the meeting held with the Central Secretary Tribal Affairs, G. B. Mukherjee last year, government had assured that steps would be taken to solve the problems faced by them, but nothing came out of it. Poswal also appreciated the submission of Rangarajan Committee Report for the employment of youth in J&K. Ishfaq-ur-Rehman Poswal pleaded for political reservation for Gujjars in Legislative Assembly/Legislative council. The delegation comprised of Choudhary Naik Alam from Kupwara; Choudhary Abdul Rashd from Badgam district; Mir Hussain Fida from Shopian, Choudhary Jamal-ud-Din from Handwara; Yasin from Kupwara. A seven member delagtion of Shiromani Akali Dal (National) met met the Prime Minister and appealed for the one time settlement of claims of displaced persons of 1947 from Pakistan administered Kashmir (PaK). Delegation was led Gurdev Singh, working president of the organisation. Delegation apprised him about the plight of over 31000 registered Hindu and Sikh families who have been denied justice despite the fact that government had assured them repeatedly that there problems would be addressed. They demanded that each family be given Rs 30 lakh as one time settlement. Others who were part of delagtion included Dayal Singh Wazir, general secretary, Amrik Singh Sathi, Tarlok Singh, Santokh Singh and Tarlochan Singh Bijral. A delegation of J&K Pradesh Congress Committee (JKPCC) comprising of senior leaders met the Prime Minister Manmohan Singh at Raj Bhawan. The delegation discussed the overall political situation in the state and various issues pertaining to three regions of the state. They thanked the Prime Minister for the liberal financial support for the overall development of Jammu and Kashmir besides constitution of task force for Jammu and Ladakh to speed up developmental needs. The congress leaders put forth their suggestions for strengthening the process of dialogue initiated by the central government especially through the appointment of interlocutors. Sharing their views regarding the resolution of the outstanding issues of Jammu and Kashmir, they emphasized the need to devolve and decentralize adequate powers to the regions and likewise to the lower levels for their political and economic empowerment in order to fulfill the regional urges and aspirations of people. The Congress delegation discussed the problem of unemployment in the wake of inadequate job opportunities in all three regions of the state, while expressing their gratitude to the Prime Minister for his announcement of a special package of employment for the youth of the state. The delegation also discussed the issues of refugees of 1947, 1965 and 1971 from POK and those of West Pakistan and urged for the speedy settlement of their issues and genuine demands. Those who met the PM include Mangat Ram Sharma, Dharam Pal Sharma, Amrit Malhotra-MLC, senior vice presidents; Thakur Hari Singh, Yashpal Khajuria, Gurmukh Singh, Prem Sagar Aziz, Bashir Ahmed Magrey, vice presidents); Ravinder Sharma-MLC Spokesman, Amolak Singh (General Secretaries); Janak Raj Gupta, Mula Ram, Jugal Kishore Sharma, Smt. Suman Bhagat (Ex-Ministers) besides both the Members Parliament Shri Madan Lal Sharma and Ch. Lal Singh also joined the delegation. A delegation of J&K National Conference also met the Prime Minister and brought to his notice political and economical problems of the state. The delegation emphasized on the Prime Minister to restore autonomy in the state as J&K Legislature has passed a resolution regarding restoration of autonomy in the state. The delegation stressed for a meaningful Indo-Pak dialogue is the need of the hour and it should be taken to its logical conclusion in order to restore peace in the sub-continent besides urging for provision of maximum job opportunities to the youth of J&K state, who have very negligible representation in the Central Govt services, para military forces, army and central government under takings etc. The delegation appealed the Prime Minister that the allocation of the ration of the state be increased in the view of J&K as a deficit state. The delegation further emphasized the need to connect Kishtwar , Poonch and Kupwara with the railways and demanded that a railway coach factory be set up in the state to generate job opportunities for the unemployed youth of the state. The delegation stressed the need of early completion of railway project from Udhampur to Kashmir and also asked to make Jammu- Katra double track. The delegation comprised of Choudhary Mohammad Ramzan MLA, Rattan Lal Gupta Provincial President Jammu, Ajay Kr. Sadotra MLC, Sajjad Ahmad Kitchloo MLA, Mohd Irfan Shah MLA, Feroz Ahmad Khan MLA, Tsetan Namgyal MLA & Showkat Hussain Ganai MLC.
