| Presentation convent celebrates annual day | | | JAMMU, NOV 12 The Presentation Convent Senior Secondary School, Gandhi Nagar today celebrated its annual day function in a peculiar manner in the history of Jammu- highlighting the burning issue of desertification of area. The school children belonging to affluent sections of the society, attired in colorful dresses, put up various stalls depicting the lifestyle of Rajasthan, cleaning and preparation of food in traditional way, demerits of plastic of use of plastic, scenes of earth-quake, with doctors and NGOs provided treatment and other facilities to the affected population.. The children presented skits and a scintillating cultural program highlighting the Dogra culture of the state. Minister of the State for Rural Development Javed Mustafa Mir was chief guest. Underlining the need for preserving environment, the Minister called upon the people to desist from throwing waste in the rivers adding that the water table has been showing a reducing trend posing a great problem of availability of already scarce water for drinking and irrigation purposes. Depletion of forest cover, he said, has been the cause of great concern and advised people to go in for massive plantations on the vacant lands and nearby surroundings. He had a special word of praise for the organizers especially the budding students for presenting the colourful programs depicting the rich cultural heritage of the state. To promote co-curricular activities in the educational institutions, the Minister said that physical teachers have been appointed right from elementary level to make children physically fit. Later, he presented memento to the Principal of the school.. Among those present were Principal Government Medical College, Dr Mumtaz Goni, parents and prominent citizens.
