Commuters hooked up as silent spectators, city tuned into fortress | | | EARLY TIMES REPORT Mishu Gupta Jammu, Mar 4: It was a complete chaos in this winter capital as the commuters faced tough time today due to road blocks followed by hours long traffic jam due to Prime Minister Manmohan Singh's day-long visit here. As all the entry points were seized and additional forces deployed for tight security arrangements, people of this winter capital faced hard time. Raised barricades and route diversions upset commuters in the morning followed by hours-long traffic jam after the Prime Minister reached Raj Bhawan to meet Jammu and Kashmir Governor N N Vohra. ''The government had information about the Prime Minister's visit since long, they should have made alternative arrangements to avoid inconvenience to ‘Aam Admi’,'' a pedestrian rued. He said information regarding diversion of routes should have been published in the newspapers ahead of the VVIPs visit for the convenience of the commuters. Sandeep Kumar, a resident, said: “I am sick of VIP movements. I was so inconvenienced,” he added. Sandeep said the police made their life miserable. “Though they were doing their duty, why should the common man suffer?” he asked. Meanwhile, eye witnesses said Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) president Mehbooba Mufti's cavalcade was also trapped in the long traffic jam near her official residence in New Plot area. A comment by a media person over Prime Minister’s Jammu visit on social network site-Facebook sums up the frustrating moments which the people have to go through the entire day. “The streets deserted, city seems like cantonment, men in khaki dominate roads, barricading all over roads, diversions here and there and we journalists held 'hostages' inside a police bus....... “
