Doda militant returns mysteriously with family from POK

DODA, Mar 4: After 21 years, a Doda resident, who had crossed over to Pakistan Occupied Kashmir (POK) surrendered before police in Doda along with his wife and three kids.
Police sources said that Mohammad Iqbal Shinali son of Bashir Ahmed Shinali of Doda crossed over to POK on November 18, 1990 for arms training and today all of sudden, he surrendered before the police in Doda along with his family which includes his wife and three children. The surrendered family was in the custody of police and they were being interrogated by senior police officers to extract the details how they reached Doda.
Mohammad Iqbal Shinali’s case for return under rehabilitation policy was still under consideration, sources said, adding that his mother had approached for safe return of her son to district police chief recently besides family members of 24 other misguided youth, who crossed over to POK from Doda district. However, he returned prior to state government’s nod in his case.
It was learnt that in last 21 years of his stay in POK 44-year-old Mohammad Iqbal Shinali, experienced many ups and downs in his life. He got married to a POK girl and had three kids. He met with tragedy on December 1, 2002 when his father, a retired peon of Education department in Doda, was killed during encounter between police and militants in Doda town and he could not shoulder his father’s funeral.
According to his mother, she was already upset of his son for crossing over to POK and the death of husband added to her agony. She said, “I am delighted with the return of my son. My entire family and locals are congratulating me. I feel better now when I saw the wife of my son Sadia Begum of POK & his three children Haris, 6, Sumaya, 4, and Sheeza 2. Eye witness said there was large gathering of people outside Superintendent of Police Office Doda to see Iqbal Shinali and his family.
