NH reopens for one way traffic | Leh Road closed | | EARLY TIMES REPORT Jammu, March 5: One-way traffic was resumed on the 300-km-long Srinagar-Jammu national highway, after for four-days . We have allowed one-way traffic from Jammu to Srinagar today after the landslides were cleared by the Border Roads Organisation (BRO), responsible for maintenance of the highway,” a traffic police spokesman said here. He said it has been decided to clear all stranded vehicles, particularly those carrying passengers, before allowing heavy vehicles, including trucks loaded with essentials in the afternoon. However, no vehicle will be allowed from Srinagar to Jammu to avoid any traffic jam on the highway, linking the Kashmir Valley with the rest of the country, he said. The highway was closed due to heavy snowfall at Jawahar tunnel, Banihal and Patnitop and landslides between Ramban and Ramsu. With the improvement in the weather, the BRO could clear the landslides from the highway, he said. Roads connecting far flung and remote areas near the Line of Control (LoC) in Kupwara and Bandipora however, remained closed due to snowfall. However, the national highway connecting Ladakh region with the rest of the state, remained closed due to snowfall. |
