New health sub-centres set up as per norms: Sham | | | EARLY TIMES REPORT JAMMU, Mar 5: Minister for Health and Family Welfare, Sham Lal Sharma informed the Legislative Assembly that a comprehensive exercise is presently under way to ascertain the bare minimum requirements for opening up of new health sub-centres in the State, adding that new health sub-centres are opened for a population of 3000 souls in hilly areas and 5000 souls in plain areas as per norms fixed by the Centre. This was stated by the Minister while replying to a question by Ch. Zulfikar Ali in the House today. Sham Lal said the requirement for opening of new Sub-Health Centres in Darhal constituency would also be taken into consideration. He said no Primary Health Centre or Community Health Centre has been upgraded during last three years in the State, adding that it is not a fact that direly deserving areas of Jammu province have been ignored while upgrading such health institutions. Minister said that the Community Health Centre has the same status as that of Sub- District Hospital and both the nomenclatures are used interchangeably. He said the health institutions are upgraded keeping in view various parameters like population norms, distance from nearest health institution, workload, infrastructure built and availability of resources.
