Centre approves Rs 70 cr for expansion of Jammu airport

JAMMU, Mar 5: Centre has approved Rs. 70 crore for expansion and upgradation of Jammu airport terminal building, informed Minister for Revenue Raman Bhalla saying that it would enhance passenger-handling capacity to 700 passengers.
Minister was on an inspection tour to the proposed the proposed site for rehabilitation of people who are likely to be displaced after Jammu airport expansion at Rakh Raipur. Interacting with the locals, Bhalla said Government has accorded sanction to the transfer of Irrigation and Flood Control department land measuring 58 kanals 08 marlas on the left side of main Ranbir canal at RD 26465M in village Rakh Raipur for the rehabilitation purpose.
He urged the people not to start any construction within 50 feet of the canal area. Minister apprised the people there was no constraint of funds as UPA Government headed by Prime Minister Dr. Manmohan Singh is providing liberal funding to the state Government for completing the ongoing projects in a time bound manner besides initiating new development works.
He said that central government is fully aware of Jammu and Kashmir people’s problems and is making all out efforts to mitigate the same in a phased manner. He sought cooperation of the people in implementing the development programmes on ground level. Bhalla expressed gratitude to the Prime Minister for announcing an additionality of Rs. 32 crore grant for providing better basic facilities to the students of SKUAST-J.
He also had words of praise for the Prime Minister for assuring complete support from UPA-Government in further boosting the known agricultural products in the State like R S Pura basmati, Bhaderwahi Rajmah, Kishtwari saffron, Anardana and Bakerwali goat. Later, the Minister asked the District Development Commissioner, Jammu to visit the proposed site at Rakh Raipur village along with Chief Town Planner, Jammu for preparing a site plan for rehabilitation of displaced families there.
