Compensation for rain hit families demanded | | | EARLY TIMES REPORT Jammu, Mar 5: National Conference leader and distt secretary Ramban Sajjad Shaheen today demanded compensation to the families whose houses and property has been damaged due to heavy rains and snow in tehsil Banihal. Expressing anguish over the loss to houses & property due to heavy rains and snow in Banihal Ramban Sajjad Shaheen said that dozens of houses and several kanals of cultivated land has been badly damaged due to floods and sinking of land in Sumar,Sarbagni,Chanjloo ,Ramsoo,Paristan ,Pogal, Mahu, Chaka, Bingara, Hochak, Vernal, Tatnihal, Amkote, Lamber, Neel and several families have been rendered homeless due to this natural calamity. He said that several roads connecting various villages have also been badly damaged and these villages have been cut off from rest of the tehsil. Shaheen alleged that the people living in far flung areas are also facing acute shortage of essential commodities like rice, wheat, sugar, kerosene, oil etc as there are reports that the rational has not reached to the most of the areas for the last two months. He appealed to the government that high level teams be constituted and immediately sent to all villages including Neel,Pogal,Paristan,Sumar,Sarbagni,Ramsoo,Bingara,Varnhal,Chaka,Sarbagni,Neel,Mahu Mangit and other villages of Banihal to assess the losses and adequate compensation be paid to the affected families. He also demanded that three months free ration should be provided to the people of Tehsil Banihal and essential commodities be made available in all the areas of Banihal without any delay besides restoration of the road links which have be damaged.
