JAMMU, Mar 5:
The J&K State Legislative Assembly today witnessed a verbal spat between Minister for Law & Parliamentary Affairs Ali Mohammad Sagar and PDP MLA Moulvi Iftikhar Hussain Ansari- the two of the senior members of the House.
The opposition members, who came back to the House after boycotting the proceedings over the alleged discrimination in allocation of funds under various sectors and demanding a House Committee to look into the allegations, one by one stood up and
reiterated their demand.
When Moulvi Iftikhar Hussain Ansari stood up to speak over the issue, he asked the Speaker of the Assembly to conduct the proceedings of the House taking a cue from the Lok Sabha Speaker’s handling of the business of the House.
As soon as Ansari said this, the Minister for Law and Parliamentary Affairs objected to it by saying, “Don’t target Speaker… He is above all.”
Speaker Mohammad Akbar Lone then said in a lighter vein to Ansari “Aap Kabhi Us Taraf to Kabhi Udhar to Kabhi Is Taraf Hote Hain (Pointing towards Ansari’s switch over from Congress to NC then to PDP).”
In response to Speaker’s jibe, Ansari retorted back and said, “Aapke CM Inki Chatra Chaya Mein Pal Rahe They (Pointing a finger towards Prof Chaman Lal Gupta of BJP, Ansari reminded that Omar Abdullah was once enjoying the patronage of the Saffron
party being part of NDA, Omar was a Minister in the Union cabinet headed by Atal Behari Vajpayee.)
This remarks again made Sagar angry which led to a heated exchange of words between the two and initially it was nothing audible in the din created by the duo, who was hitting back at each other with comment after comment.
Moulvi Iftikhar said that you (Sagar) are spending huge money on several religious places but have forgotten the historical Imambara in Zadibal area of Srinagar.
“Not even a single penny has been spent on Imambara for the last several
years.” Ansari said Ali Mohd Sagar refuted Ansari’s claims and said angrily, “The work is going on the Imambara ….You are stooping so low by raising Shia-Sunni issue just for the sake of petty political gains.”
Ansari, however, refused the Minister’s claims by saying, “Agar Panch Rupaye Bhi Wahan Par Lag Rahe Ho To Istifa De Doonga (Even if Rs 5 are being spent for the development of Imambara, I will tender my resignation as MLA.)”
