One day Gujjar, Bakerwal convention held
Soz assures due share in funds, jobs

JAMMU, Mar 6: Jammu and Kashmir Pardesh Congress Committee president, Saif-u-din Soz today called upon the Gujjar community to participate in the upcoming Panchayat elections in a big way to strengthen the roots of democracy in the state.
He was speaking at one day Gujjar, Bakerwal convention organized by the Gurjar Desh Charitable Trust, Jammu.
Soz said that Gujjars and Bakerwals, the third largest ethnic group in Jammu and Kashmir, constitute more than 20 percent population of the State. He asked the community to strengthen the Congress party for its secular and people friendly policies.
He assured Gujjar and Bakerwal community of due share in funds, jobs and other state and centrally sponsored schemes.
Minister for Revenue, appreciated Gujjar and Bakerwal community for their bravery, hardiness, courage, simplicity and the un-flinching nationalism they have exhibited. He assured the community member of early settlement of their cases regarding Roshni Act and land allotment.
Minister for PHE, Taj Mohi-u-din said that Gujjar and Bakerwal community are the backbone of the State adding that there is a need to create congenial atmosphere for their uplift and growth.
He urged upon the Minister for Revenue for early consideration of different cases of Roshni Act of Gujjar and Bakerwal families in the State.
R S Chib said that Gujjars and Bakarwals have survived with the dent of their hard work and served the society despite all odds.
Sham Lal Sharma gave details about the measures being taken by health ministry for extending health services to the tribal community. He said that the government was keen to make every basic amenity available to the community.
Earlier, Chairman Gurjar Desh Charitable Trust, Shah Mohammad and other leaders of the community projected various demands of the community. They demanded reservation in educational, professional and other technical institutions for the community youth. They also called for reservation in the police and other belt force recruitments.
